Victorian Wavy Ash Stationary Box

Description Hungarian Ash Writing Box Magnificent Victorian Hungarian Ash stationary box by the renowned jewellers and silversmiths Howell James and Company, who were based in Regent Street in London from 1819 to 1911. The wood is also known as Wavy Ash due to the variegated colours of the dark and light tones . A large oval, rope edged brass frame holds a malachite insert in the most vibrant green colour, with a brass letter B in the centre. There is also ornate brass detailing on the corners of the slanted lid and on the front of the box and on the keyhole. Inside there are several slots for letters/post, finished with green satin and patterned paper, and elegant brass hinges. Complete with original key and tassel. Excellent condition.
